Synopsis
Mission Pays Basque (2017) — watch online on iFILM. Directed by Ludovic Bernard, this French comedy follows Sibylle (Élodie Fontan), a sharp-elbowed Parisian sent to the Basque Country to snap up a run-down hardware store and turn it into a supermarket. The deal looked simple on paper.
It stops being simple the moment she learns that the elderly owner is under legal guardianship — which means she has to go through his nephew Ramón (Florent Peyre) to get anywhere. Ramón is in no rush. Daniel Prévost plays the old owner, who understands the situation perfectly and watches Sibylle's frustration with quiet amusement. The Basque townspeople share his indifference to being managed from Paris, and the film gets a lot of mileage out of a city person discovering that confidence is not the same as leverage.
The romance is low-pressure and the comedy stays dry rather than broad. Bernard keeps it moving without overselling the charm. A film that delivers exactly what it promises and doesn't overstay its welcome. Stream Mission Pays Basque online on iFILM.
