Pootie Tang

Pootie Tang (2001) is the cult action-comedy you can watch online on iFILM. It was Louis C.K.'s directing debut, grown out of a sketch from The Chris Rock Show, and it follows the coolest man in the neighborhood — a hero who speaks his own scrambled language that everyone somehow understands.

Pootie is a pop star, a movie actor and a folk legend rolled into one, and his weapon of choice is his late father's belt, which he uses to crack crime in the street. Trouble starts when the LecterCorp empire decides to own him: steal the magic belt and force him to push junk products on the kids who idolize him. Lance Crouther plays Tang with a stone face, surrounded by Chris Rock, Wanda Sykes, Jennifer Coolidge and Robert Vaughn as the corporate heavy.

The whole thing is absurd, deliberately cheap and proudly strange — a box-office flop that later found its crowd. The comedy runs on pure deadpan: the straighter the face, the funnier the joke.
