Synopsis
Trouble Every Day (2001) is a French horror-drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Claire Denis and starring Vincent Gallo and Béatrice Dalle. Shane and June Brown fly to Paris for their honeymoon. Shane has a problem he did not disclose on the flight.
He was once a subject in the research of a French scientist named Léo Sémeneau — experiments into human desire that left Shane with a compulsion he cannot name or control. He is in Paris to find the doctor. What he finds instead is Coré, the scientist's wife, who carries the same affliction and has long since stopped resisting it. Gallo plays the role with almost no dialogue; Dalle's scenes are something else entirely, and not everyone will get through them.
Denis shoots physical horror with the patience of a portrait painter — long, still takes, ambient sound, Paris drained of warmth. The film divided audiences at Cannes when it premiered, and it will divide viewers now for exactly the same reasons. Not a genre film in any conventional sense.
