Yolo

Yolo (热辣滚烫, 2024) is a Chinese boxing tragicomedy you can watch online on iFILM. Le Ying gave up on herself a long time ago. She stays home, dodges old friends and calls it a truce with her own life. The truce is about to fall apart.

A fight with her younger sister pushes Le Ying out of the family home and into her first stretch of true solitude. Then she meets a boxing coach, and something she thought was long gone flickers back: the urge to win, just once. What follows is the gym, the heavy bag, split knuckles and a slow reunion with her own body. Director and lead Jia Ling put herself through a brutal physical overhaul for the part, and the screen tells you so without a single line of dialogue.

Loosely built on the Japanese film 100 Yen Love, Yolo became one of the biggest box-office events on the Chinese mainland. It is less a sports story than a portrait of the moment a person decides to stop losing by default. A great pick if you like comedy that quietly hardens into a drama about dignity.
