The Five Devils

The Five Devils (Les Cinq Diables, 2022) is a French fantasy drama directed by Léa Mysius — watch it online on iFILM. Eight-year-old Vicky has an uncanny sense of smell: she can reconstruct any scent with perfect accuracy and stores her copies in carefully labelled jars. Her most prized collection smells of her mother Joanne — a fierce, all-consuming attachment.

When her father's sister Julia arrives in town fresh out of prison, Vicky captures her scent too. The smell pulls the girl back in time — not into her own memory but into other people's, into the buried events that explain every silence in the household. Adèle Exarchopoulos plays Joanne, Noée Abita plays Julia; cinematography is by Julien Poupard.
