Explorer: The Last Tepui
Climb into the unknown.
Synopsis
Explorer: The Last Tepui (2022) is a National Geographic documentary you can watch online on iFILM. It follows an expedition to a tepui — one of the flat-topped sky islands deep in the Amazon, vertical worlds cut off from the lowlands for millions of years.
Climber Alex Honnold and a team led by Mark Synnott set out to carry biologist Bruce Means to the summit. He's in his eighties, and he's convinced the plateau holds species no one has ever named. Getting him up there means a first-ever ascent of a sheer 1,000-foot wall. Taylor Rees and Renan Öztürk directed.
In under an hour the film braids two threads: high-stakes climbing on slick, dripping rock, and the patient thrill of a naturalist hunting for frogs the size of a fingernail. It's shot with that signature NatGeo camerawork. One for viewers who love expedition stories and wild, untouched landscapes.
