Synopsis
The Confession (La Confession, 2017) is a French-Belgian drama you can watch online on iFILM. Nicolas Boukhrief directs, working from Béatrix Beck's novel Léon Morin, prêtre. A small town sits under German occupation, and a new priest has just arrived in the parish.
Barny is young, communist, and firmly without faith. The priest, Father Morin (Romain Duris), unsettles her simply by existing, so she walks into his church not to pray but to argue — to corner him, to expose the cracks in his belief. The debates stretch on for months. Between a woman whose husband died at the front and a man bound by his collar, something grows that neither will quite name. Marina Vacth plays Barny as stubborn and wry, slowly losing her footing.
This is a wartime film with no gunfire in frame; the entire struggle happens in conversation, behind a closed door.
