I Come with the Rain

I Come with the Rain (2009) — watch it online on iFILM — is a dark crime thriller directed by Vietnamese filmmaker Trần Anh Hùng, shot across Asia and Europe as a France-Spain-Hong Kong co-production. Ex-LAPD detective Kline is hired by a pharmaceutical billionaire to find his missing son Shitao, last seen somewhere in the Philippines.

Shitao is a healer — he takes other people's injuries and pain literally into his own body. As Kline closes in, he finds himself dragged back into the mindset of a serial killer case that already destroyed him once. Josh Hartnett plays Kline; Takuya Kimura is Shitao; Lee Byung-hun and Elias Koteas round out a cast that spans three continents.

Trần Anh Hùng, best known for The Scent of Green Papaya, has no interest in procedural tidiness here. The film moves slowly, fractures time and goes to places that are hard to shake.
