Synopsis
White Mane (Crin Blanc, 1953) is a French short film by Albert Lamorisse that you can watch online on iFILM, with Alain Emery as young fisherman Folco.
In the Camargue marshes of southern France, a white stallion leads a herd of wild horses that no rancher has managed to break. Only Folco earns the horse's trust — quietly, without a rope. The ranchers keep coming, and the chase that follows cuts through reeds and floodwater with no clean ending in sight.
Lamorisse took home the Prix Jean Vigo for this 47-minute film. Three years later The Red Balloon picked up the Palme d'Or and an Academy Award. White Mane came first — quieter, less celebrated, and still among the most beautiful films ever made about a child and an animal. Stream it online on iFILM.
