Synopsis
Laughter and Punishment (Rire et Châtiment, 2003) is a French dark comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Vincent is a well-liked doctor with one fatal flaw: he physically cannot stop cracking jokes. His compulsion to be the funniest man in any room finally wears down his girlfriend Camille, and she walks out.
Then the gags turn lethal. People around Vincent start dropping dead, as if his desperate need for a laugh has set off a string of absurd, fatal accidents. Slowly he wonders whether Camille had a point all along. Director Isabelle Doval built the whole thing around her real husband, comic actor José Garcia, and cast herself as the woman who leaves him. Laurent Lucas and Benoît Poelvoorde round out the ensemble.
