Synopsis

Uranus (1990) is a French tragicomedy by Claude Berri you can watch online on iFILM. Spring 1945: a provincial town tries to move on, but the war refuses to end inside its people.

The local Communist Party hunts down anyone who got too close to the occupiers or to Marshal Pétain. The men who truly profited — those with money, power and the right friends — slip away untouched. The purge lands instead on a mild café owner whose only wish is to write his poems and be left in peace, until he starts pushing back. Gérard Depardieu, Philippe Noiret, Michel Blanc, Jean-Pierre Marielle and Michel Galabru fill out a cast drawn from the best of French cinema.

Adapted from Marcel Aymé's novel, the film is a sharp study of how a witch-hunt rarely catches the guilty and almost always crushes the weak. Berri keeps every character morally muddy — cowardly, petty, or just trying to survive one more day. Stream Uranus (1990) online on iFILM.
