Synopsis
Palestinian director Elia Suleiman wrote, directed, and stars in It Must Be Heaven (2019), available to watch online on iFILM. He plays himself, travelling from Nazareth to Paris to New York looking for funding for a film. In each city, he finds something unexpected: it looks like home.
Suleiman speaks almost nothing for the entire film. He sits in cafés, stands on street corners, watches — police, strangers, the small rituals of cities he doesn't belong to — and his silence turns the ordinary into a deadpan political essay. Gael García Bernal appears in a small role. The film took the Special Jury Prize at Cannes 2019.
