Synopsis
Student Services (Mes chères études, 2010) is a French drama from director Emmanuelle Bercot that you can watch online on iFILM. Déborah François plays Laura, a nineteen-year-old in her first university year, sinking under coursework, a part-time job and bills she can't cover.
The money keeps running short. One night Laura clicks on a curt online ad: a 57-year-old man wants a student for "tender moments" at a hundred euros an hour. Just once, she tells herself. It never stays once, and the hidden second life between lecture halls and hotel rooms quietly eats away at everything else — her studies, her friendships, her sense of who she is. Bercot shoots it cold and almost documentary-plain, neither judging nor glamorizing, just watching money trouble corner a smart young woman. The whole film rests on François, whose quiet, unforced performance is what makes it so uneasy to watch. One for viewers who prefer hard-edged European cinema about real problems over tidy melodrama.
