Synopsis
Wrong Move (Falsche Bewegung, 1975) is Wim Wenders' road drama, free to watch online on iFILM. Wilhelm wants to be a writer but has nothing to say yet. His mother hands him a train ticket to Bonn and a single instruction: go live.
On the train he falls in with an aging former athlete who once competed at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, and the man's mute teenage companion, Mignon, an acrobat who performs in market squares for loose change. A loose band of strangers gathers around them, trading talk of poetry and half-formed crushes while a postwar Germany drifts past the window, recognizable as neither its old self nor the America it half-imitates.
Peter Handke wrote the screenplay, riffing freely on Goethe's Wilhelm Meister, and the film sits at the center of Wenders' road-movie trilogy. It also marks the screen debut of a fourteen-year-old Nastassja Kinski. Quiet, unhurried, more mood than plot — catch it if slow cinema is your thing.
