Centaur

Centaur (Kentavr, 2023) is a Russian crime thriller from director Kirill Kemnits, ready to watch online on iFILM. A city after dark, the back seat of a taxi, two strangers sharing one small space — and a quiet that slowly curdles into dread.

For Liza (Anastasia Talyzina), the nighttime ride is the only calm minute in her whole day. Her driver Sasha is composed and attentive, the kind who can read even the most rattled passenger, and at first the trip feels safe enough. The city plays by different rules past midnight, though. Each turn brings a fresh hazard, and bit by bit it dawns on her that the real threat isn't out there on the street — it's far closer than she'd like.

Yura Borisov, one of the most talked-about Russian actors of recent years, carries nearly the entire film in half-tones, never overplaying his hand. The tagline "a whole other life at night" lands cleanly: the picture runs on claustrophobia and on trust that may cost far too much. A tight, nervy thriller built for one tense evening.
