Synopsis
Pray Away (2021) is a documentary by Kristine Stolakis that you can watch online on iFILM. It traces the American "ex-gay" movement and Exodus International, the group that spent decades insisting prayer and therapy could undo a person's sexual orientation.
It starts in the 1970s with five evangelical men running a small support circle. Letters pour in by the thousands, the circle grows into the world's largest conversion-therapy network, and its founders turn into stars of the religious right. Stolakis sits down with several of them — John Paulk, Alan Chambers, Julie Rodgers — alongside a survivor still carrying the damage.
What gives the film its weight is the confession at its core: the leaders' own "same-sex attractions" never went away, and many later came out and renounced the work they built. It's a quiet, unsparing look at how sincere faith can be turned into a weapon. A tough, clear-eyed watch. Stream Pray Away online on iFILM.
