Champions

Champions (Campeones, 2018) is a Spanish comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. Marco is an assistant coach in pro basketball whose temper runs well ahead of his judgment. After a drunken car crash, a court hands him community service: running Los Amigos, a team of players with intellectual disabilities.

At first Marco just counts down the days until his sentence is up. But these guys aren't playing for the scoreboard — one is terrified of the locker-room showers, another crosses half the city to make practice, another is simply glad someone expects him to turn up. Javier Gutiérrez plays the lead without a drop of condescending sweetness; his character ends up less a teacher of the team than a man relearning how not to be a jerk. Director Javier Fesser cast most of the players from non-professional actors with real diagnoses, and that choice keeps the whole thing free of fakery.
