Synopsis
The Tripper (2006) is an American horror-comedy you can watch online on iFILM. It marks actor David Arquette's debut behind the camera, and the killer at its center is obsessed with Ronald Reagan.
A van full of pot-smoking, free-loving hippies rolls into the California woods for a weekend music festival. Waiting among the trees is a maniac in a Reagan mask, swinging an axe and nursing a deep hatred of everything the sixties stood for. From there the rules of the slasher take over: the party, the bonfires, the drugs, and then the bodies that start to vanish one by one. The cast is a wild grab bag, with Jaime King, Lucas Haas, Thomas Jane as the local sheriff, Paul Reubens and Courteney Cox all turning up. Horror legend Wes Craven even drops in for a cameo.
Underneath the gore, Arquette built a nasty little satire of America's culture wars, dressed up as a comedy about a conservative with an axe. It is crude, absurd and proudly cheap, made for fans of slashers that refuse to take themselves seriously. Stream The Tripper (2006) online on iFILM.
