Synopsis

Noël walked away from the underworld years ago. He breeds horses outside Paris and shares a quiet life with his wife Nicole, and he means to keep it that way. Then Mickey, a young convict, breaks out of prison and stumbles onto the farm. The calm cracks. The past Noël paid so dearly to bury shows up armed and unwilling to leave.
Corneau sets two eras of crime against each other — Montand's weary control versus Depardieu's raw, jittery violence — with Deneuve as the reason Noël clings to his new life.
