Synopsis

The script comes from the memoirs of real-life inspector Roger Borniche. In the winter of 1947 a killer named Émile Buisson (Trintignant) walks out of a psychiatric ward and, over the next three years, climbs to the top of France's most-wanted list. Delon plays Borniche — patient, stubborn, watching his informants die one by one as he tightens the net. By the time the cuffs go on, Buisson is tied to dozens of murders and more than a hundred robberies.
