Synopsis
Spanish horror The Influence (La influencia, 2019) is ready to watch online on iFILM. Denis Rovira van Boekholt adapted it from a novel by British author Ramsey Campbell, and it centers on a nurse, Alicia, who comes back to her childhood home to care for her dying mother — Queenie, the tyrant grandmother who poisoned her early years.
Queenie lies bedridden and silent, yet the house still obeys her. Alicia's estranged sister hovers nearby, and her own small daughter begins acting in ways that don't add up. The closer the old woman drifts to death, the tighter her grip becomes; for her, dying looks less like an ending than a way to settle into the walls for good. Rovira builds the scares out of quiet and out of childhood memory, which turns out to be worse than any ghost.
