Chevalier

Chevalier (2015) is a Greek tragicomedy from director Athina Rachel Tsangari, available to watch online on iFILM. Six men on a fishing trip aboard a luxury yacht in the middle of the Aegean Sea grow bored and invent a game: who among them is, simply, the best at everything.

The rules are deadpan and absurd. They rate one another on everything — who sleeps better, who assembles furniture more neatly, whose blood work looks healthiest, who sings without butchering the tune. Each man keeps a private notebook and quietly scores the rest. What starts as a way to kill time hardens into a cold war of egos. Friends turn into rivals, polite smiles cover wounded pride, and the winner will wear a ring on his smallest finger — the chevalier — and claim the title of best man on board.

Tsangari, a key voice of the Greek Weird Wave, turns this enclosed setup into a dry dissection of male competition and the emptiness of status games. The comedy is clinical and uncomfortable, funny in exact proportion to how awkward it gets. If you like strange arthouse cinema in the vein of Yorgos Lanthimos, this one fits.
