Synopsis
Doc of the Dead (2014) — watch online a documentary by Alexandre O. Philippe, the director behind The People vs. George Lucas, on why zombies took over modern pop culture. In 81 minutes Philippe traces the genre from George Romero's 1968 Night of the Living Dead all the way to billion-dollar franchises.
The talking heads are the genre itself: Romero, Bruce Campbell, Simon Pegg, special effects legend Tom Savini, The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and SFX supervisor Greg Nicotero. Together they make a case that zombie fiction was never really about horror — it's a mirror held up to social collapse, consumerism and what people do to each other when the rules dissolve.
