Synopsis
Robot Dreams (2023) is Pablo Berger's animated feature, and you can watch it online on iFILM. In 1980s New York, a lonely Dog eats dinner alone in front of the TV until he mail-orders a robot companion. The two become inseparable — right up to the day at the beach when Robot seizes up and Dog has no choice but to leave him on the sand.
What follows is a whole year apart. The beach shuts for winter, Dog can't get back to his friend, and Robot lies under the open sky dreaming of their reunion. Two stories run side by side: one learns to stop being alone again, the other waits and imagines. Not a single line of dialogue is spoken — everything rides on glances, music and body language, which is exactly why it lands harder than most films that talk.
Adapted by Berger from Sara Varon's graphic novel, this is that rare cartoon aimed squarely at the grown-ups in the room: about friendship, parting, and how letting go isn't the same as forgetting.
