Double Vision

Double Vision (雙瞳, 2002) is a Taiwanese crime-horror hybrid directed by Chen Kuo-Fu — watch it online on iFILM. Someone is killing people in Taipei: victims are found in ritual positions, an unidentified fungus lodged in their brains. The FBI flies in an agent (David Morse) to consult; the local department pairs him with Inspector Huang Huo-tu (Tony Leung Ka-fai).

Huang is a department problem. He once testified against a corrupt cousin, the cousin kidnapped his daughter, and his colleagues have been cold ever since. The investigation pulls them into Taoist secret cults — territory where American forensics stops being useful. Part police procedural, part occult thriller, it plays both straight enough to work.
