César

César (1936) is the third and final chapter of Marcel Pagnol's Marseille Trilogy, a drama you can watch online on iFILM — and the only one Pagnol directed himself, after Alexander Korda and Marc Allégret helmed Marius and Fanny.

Twenty years have passed. Panisse, Fanny's husband, is dead, and their son Césariot has finally learned the truth about his birth: his biological father is Marius (Pierre Fresnay), who has spent those years in poverty far from the harbor. The young man goes to find him. At the center of it all is Raimu as old barkeeper César — too proud to apologize, too attached to his family to stay away.
