Synopsis
Tim Maia (2014) is a Brazilian music biopic you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Mauro Lima, it traces the soul singer's life from a Rio de Janeiro childhood to his death at 55.
Babu Santana carries the lead. As a young man, Maia heads to the United States, scrapes by on odd jobs, and falls hard for American rhythm and blues — the sound that would reshape his own. A stint behind bars for theft and drug possession cuts the trip short. Back home, he fuses soul and funk with Brazilian melody and turns into one of the most beloved, most unruly names on the national scene. Robson Nunes, Alinne Moraes and Cauã Reymond round out the cast.
The 140-minute film refuses to tidy him up: benders, walked-off concerts and screaming matches with producers sit right next to the moments where a classic song claws its way out of the wreckage. If you like musician portraits that keep the bruises in, where genius and self-sabotage share a room, this one delivers. Stream Tim Maia (2014) online on iFILM.
