Synopsis
Tokyo Fiancée (2014) is a tender romance about love and culture shock that you can watch online on iFILM. Amélie, a young Belgian woman, returns to Japan — the country of her childhood — hoping to write a book and start her life over.
To get by, she posts an ad for French lessons. Her one and only student is Rinri, a shy Japanese man who adores everything French as much as she adores everything Japanese. What begins as language practice slides into a whirlwind romance of awkward parties, spur-of-the-moment trips and a Tokyo few tourists ever see. Then comes the harder question: is the free-spirited Amélie ready to be anyone's fiancée?
Director Stefan Liberski adapts Amélie Nothomb's autobiographical novel into something quiet and wry, carried by Pauline Étienne's easy charm. A gentle pick for fans of European films about being a stranger in someone else's country. Stream Tokyo Fiancée (2014) online on iFILM.
