Eight city rounds play out across the country. Competitors sprint, grip, and swing through courses built to eliminate almost everyone — most don't make it past the early stages. Those who clear the city finals travel to Las Vegas for the national round, and the best of those board a plane for Japan. The prize is a million dollars. The format follows the Japanese original, Sasuke, which had been humbling elite athletes for years before the American version launched. Season 1 is leaner than what the show eventually became: no backstory segments, no celebrity slots, just the obstacles and whoever dares to step up.
