Synopsis
A Single Girl (La fille seule, 1995) is a French drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Benoît Jacquot and starring Virginie Ledoyen — years before The Beach made her an international name. Valérie is starting her first shift delivering room-service trays at a Paris hotel. She is also pregnant, mid-argument with her boyfriend, and quietly working out a decision she can't put off any longer.
Jacquot shot it almost entirely in real time: ninety minutes of corridors, elevator rides, and small deliveries. No flashbacks, no expository scenes. The camera follows Valérie like a shadow and lets the viewer fill in what's happening underneath. Ledoyen carries every scene without a word of explanation — which, for a film about a woman who can't talk to anyone around her, is exactly right. Stream A Single Girl (1995) on iFILM.
