Synopsis
"The Girl Without Hands" (La jeune fille sans mains, 2016) is a French animated film you can watch online on iFILM. Director Sébastien Laudenbach drew every frame himself in watercolor, adapting one of the Brothers Grimm's most unsettling tales with no concessions to easy comfort.
A poor miller makes a deal with the Devil, not realizing he has traded away his daughter. When she proves too pure for the Devil to claim outright, he orders her hands cut off. Her father obeys. She leaves without reproach and walks into a world that offers no shelter — a forest, a prince, and a long journey toward something she cannot yet name. Anaïs Demoustier voices the young woman throughout.
Laudenbach's images are loose, luminous, and deliberately unfinished-looking — watercolor washes where solid lines would be.
