Chicks (Season 1)

Chicks (Chiki, 2020) is a Russian tragicomic series you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Eduard Oganesyan, it follows three friends working a roadside brothel on a southern highway who decide they've had enough.

The push comes from Zhanna (Irina Gorbacheva), the fourth of the group, the one who left for Moscow chasing something better. She comes back with a blunt plan: open a small gym in their town and earn a living the legal way. Sveta, Marina and Lyuda buy into the dream, but the old life clings hard — pimps, debts, and husbands who treat a woman's independence as a personal insult. Alyona Mikhailova, Irina Nosova and Varvara Shmykova make you root for these women without a hint of melodrama.

What stands out is how rare this kind of story is on Russian TV: a frank take on female solidarity that's crude, funny and bruising all at once, carried by thick southern dialect and characters who feel lived-in.
