The Coffee Table

The Coffee Table (2023) is a Spanish horror film you can watch online on iFILM. Director Caye Casas builds an entire film out of one domestic argument: Jesús wants a coffee table; María doesn't; he buys it anyway.

The couple — David Pareja and Estefanía de los Santos — have just become parents and are already fraying. What happens after the furniture arrives is the whole movie, deliberately kept out of the marketing for good reason. Go in blind if you can. What it's really about is guilt: the specific kind that cannot be fixed and cannot be survived. The film picked up the Best Director prize at Sitges 2022 and has the nerve to play its most disturbing scenes for uncomfortable laughs.
