Synopsis
Five Minutes of Heaven (2009) is a British-Irish drama you can watch online on iFILM, with Liam Neeson and James Nesbitt facing each other across thirty years of unresolved violence. Oliver Hirschbiegel directed; the screenplay draws from real events.
Northern Ireland, 1975. Teenage UVF member Alistair Little shoots a Catholic man in front of his younger brother Joe. Joe is a child watching from the window. He carries that moment for the next three decades. When Alistair walks free after rehabilitation, a television production company sets up a reconciliation meeting on camera — Alistair has agreed, and so, reluctantly, has Joe. But Joe's idea of what he'll do when he finally stands in the same room as that man has been quietly building for years.
This is not a film about the Troubles as politics. It's about what witnessing a killing does to a person who never gets to be a victim on record, never gets the vocabulary for it. Nesbitt's performance is raw in a way that resists easy sympathy. Stream Five Minutes of Heaven (2009) online on iFILM.
