Three separate bets run in parallel. Elon Musk pours everything into the Roadster while Tesla bleeds cash. Carlos Ghosn pushes Nissan's Leaf toward full production. Bob Lutz tries to rescue GM's reputation with the Volt. Paine filmed from inside all three operations — the access shows, because the executives speak about failures, not just wins. Musk is the most watchable: this is before the mythology, when he was just a guy chasing a deadline. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito and Tim Robbins turn up as long-time EV converts.
