Wedding in Malinovka

Wedding in Malinovka (1967) is a Soviet musical comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Director Andrei Tutushkin adapted Boris Alexandrov's beloved operetta at Lenfilm, and the result became one of the most quoted comedies in Soviet cinema history.

The village of Malinovka keeps changing hands during the Civil War. Young shepherd Andrejka just wants to marry Yarinka. Then Ataman Gritsian — Mikhail Pugovkin playing his most iconic comic scoundrel — rides in and decides Yarinka would make a fine wife for himself. She appeals to the local Bolshevik unit, and they come up with a plan: a fake wedding to keep Gritsian occupied while the soldiers move in. Zoya Fyodorova, Alexei Smirnov, and Nikolai Slichenko fill out the cast; nearly everyone sings and dances.
