Léa Delmás grows up on a prosperous Bordeaux estate at the end of a quieter decade. Her father gives her a sky-blue bicycle; the timing is wrong. She is in love with Laurent, who marries her closest friend Camille instead. Léa leaves for Paris and finds them both there. Then the occupation begins. She and Camille flee the capital as German forces close in — carrying almost nothing, knowing even less about what comes next.
