A job goes wrong when a child steps into the kill zone. Black Cat pulls back, the target escapes, and the police move in. Life sentence. Behind bars she meets three other women prisoners — each carrying a layered backstory of her own — and gradually begins to question everything the work stood for. Director Ng steers away from the gunfights the franchise was built on and lands somewhere closer to a character study. It's a quieter film than the title suggests, and that's either its problem or its point depending on what you came for.
