About
Synopsis
Uproar (2023) is a New Zealand coming-of-age comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Paul Middleditch and Hamish Bennett. Set in 1981, it follows Josh, a 17-year-old with Māori heritage who gets through each school day by making himself invisible in the library. His classmates don't let him forget where he comes from. A teacher eventually pulls him into the drama club.
Julian Dennison (Hunt for the Wilderpeople) plays Josh, with Minnie Driver and Rhys Darby in supporting roles. The film handles identity and belonging without turning into a lecture — it's warmer and lighter than the premise suggests. Dennison carries it without effort. Stream Uproar (2023) on iFILM.
