Critical Role (2015) is an American actual-play series you can watch online on iFILM — eight professional voice actors playing Dungeons & Dragons live, week after week, building a story no one scripts in advance.

Matthew Mercer is the Dungeon Master. He constructs entire worlds in real time: Exandria, with its warring kingdoms, ancient gods and layered history, has grown into a fully realized setting across three main campaigns. The players — Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Liam O'Brien, Sam Riegel, Marisha Ray and Travis Willingham — are all known from animated series and video games, and bring full vocal performance to characters they have inhabited for years. Sessions run five or six hours. That combination of professional craft and genuine emotional investment is what separates Critical Role from the broader actual-play space.

Three main campaigns, hundreds of episodes, an animated spin-off (The Legend of Vox Machina), and sold-out live shows in major theatres — the project has grown well past its streaming origins.
