Watch The Colour of Magic (2008) online on iFILM — Sky One's two-part TV film adapting Terry Pratchett's first Discworld novels, directed by Vadim Jean. The Disc's very first tourist has arrived: Twoflower, cheerful and absolutely certain that nothing truly bad can happen to someone on holiday. The wizard assigned to keep him alive is Rincewind, whose entire magical career consists of knowing when to run.

Every attempt to escape leads to a bigger disaster. Ankh-Morpork burns. Assassins give chase. Dragons briefly become real because Twoflower believes in them hard enough. The road ends at the very Edge of the Disc. David Jason plays Rincewind with exactly the right expression — the resignation of a man whose luck ran out before the story started — while Sean Astin brings Twoflower's oblivious enthusiasm to every near-death situation.

The cast is stacked in ways the budget does not suggest: Christopher Lee, Jeremy Irons, Tim Curry, and Brian Cox all show up. Terry Pratchett himself has a small role. Book fans will spot the compressions and shortcuts, but the adaptation captures the core of what makes Discworld work: jokes that land and a real warmth underneath the chaos.
