Synopsis
Big Fan (2009) is Robert Siegel's pitch-black comedy-drama, available to watch online on iFILM. Paul Aufiero spends his nights in a Staten Island parking booth and his whole life rooting for the New York Giants. He scripts furious monologues for a late-night sports radio show and calls himself the team's number-one fan.
When Paul and his buddy Sal tail their favorite linebacker to a strip club, the night ends with a beating — the star turns on the very fan who worships him. A lawyer smells a payday and Paul's family pushes him to sue. He won't. Pressing charges would mean burning down the one thing that gives his life any meaning.
Patton Oswalt, better known for stand-up, plays Paul almost entirely in silence, and it's the role of his career. Siegel, who wrote The Wrestler, makes a small, uncomfortable film about obsession and the cost of loving something bigger than yourself. Stream Big Fan online on iFILM.
