Synopsis
Heart's Boomerang (Сердца бумеранг, 2011) is a drama by Nikolai Khomeriki you can watch online on iFILM. Kostya is twenty-three and works as an assistant to a metro train driver. An ordinary day, an ordinary medical check — and then the doctor mentions, almost in passing, the thing that splits a life in two: a failing heart that could stop at any moment.
Kostya decides to tell no one. Not his mother, not his girlfriend, not the men at the depot. He keeps driving trains through the dark tunnels, keeps meeting people, keeps quiet, as if nothing has happened. Only now every day is lit from inside by a strange new light: what, in all of this, actually mattered? Alexander Yatsenko plays him almost wordlessly, in half-tones, and the film leans on his face in close-up far more than on plot.
This is hushed auteur cinema about mortality, and about how the nearness of your own end reshapes the way you see the simplest things. The underground is shot as a world of its own — rhythmic, echoing, sealed off. Best for viewers who love slow festival dramas and don't expect loud resolutions.
