Synopsis
Awaken (2020) is a South Korean mystery thriller you can watch online on iFILM. A run of strange deaths sweeps through Seoul, and each one is tipped off to the press before it happens.
A special-unit captain (Namgoong Min) spots the oddity: the trail runs backward, not forward, straight to something that took place in a remote town twenty-eight years ago. Whatever happened there, everyone involved chose to bury it. The deeper he and a younger colleague (Seolhyun) dig, the plainer it gets that the old case was never closed, and someone is calmly finishing a long-abandoned game.
Directors Kim Jung-hyun and Lee Soo-hyun walk a fine line between detective story and science fiction, handing you answers only to flip them a scene later.
