Mendirman Jaloliddin (2021) is a Turkish-Uzbek historical drama series you can watch online on iFILM. Directors Nurgissa Almurat and Metin Günay center the story on Jalaloddin Mangburni — the last sultan of the Khwarazmian Empire — as Mongol armies close in from the steppes in the early thirteenth century.

The moment Jalaloddin takes the throne after his father's death, he faces two problems at once. A rival claimant, Alaeddin, challenges his authority inside the empire. Outside, Genghis Khan's forces test the borders. The state, cracked by years of dynastic infighting, cannot survive either threat alone. Jalaloddin's talent is in pulling old enemies under a single banner — the battles he wins buy time, and buy him loyalty.

Emre Kıvılcım leads the cast alongside Yulduz Rajabova and Javohir Zakirov. What the show gets right is the weight of decisions made with incomplete information and shrinking allies — this is a sultan who actually won engagements against the Mongols, something few rulers managed, yet still could not hold an empire together.
