Synopsis
Zona ("The Zone," 2006) is a Russian prison drama you can watch online on iFILM. Subtitled "A Prison Novel," it pulls the viewer past the barbed wire into a world that runs on its own brutal rules.
Each storyline is drawn from real inmate accounts. Behind the gates there are kings and underlings, enforcers and victims, and crimes that the outside world rarely hears about. The project grew out of notes smuggled to the writers by prisoners themselves, and alongside the professional actors stand men who actually served time. Aleksandr Taranzhin, Stepan Rozhnov and Nikolay Kovbas head the cast.
