Right to Freedom (Season 1)

Right to Freedom (2022) is a Russian crime drama series you can watch online on iFILM. Anton, a programmer from Krasnodar, has just landed his dream job at a big IT firm in Cyprus. On the way to the airport a call stops him cold: his mother, a woman he barely kept in touch with, has vanished without a trace.

Anton turns the taxi around, and his whole settled life turns with it. The search drags him into a world he never knew existed — underground slavery rings, human trafficking, disappearances nobody bothers to investigate. His allies are the volunteers of an organisation called Libertas: blunt, hard-edged Kirill, who has given his life to the cause; guarded Vika, who saves everyone but herself; and cheerful Ilya, who dreams of helping people through his blog. Ilya Malakov, Kirill Käro and Igor Sklyar head the cast.

Series rarely take on modern slavery head-on, and here the subject keeps the plot taut throughout. A son's private grief braids together with the stories of the people the volunteers pull out of the dark. A good fit if you like socially charged detective drama where the stakes are human lives.
