Synopsis
Yurka's Sunrises (Yurkiny rassvety, 1975) is a Soviet series about rural youth in the 1970s that you can watch online on iFILM. Young agronomist Yuri Khmel arrives at a collective farm fresh from the city, diploma in hand and his own firm ideas about how the place ought to run.
He runs straight into the farm chairman, a man with old grudges against newcomers and rules of his own. Their clash never turns into shouting — it plays out in stubbornness, in principle, in who proves right once the harvest is in. At home a second front opens up: Yuri's wife Zhenya has to find her footing with a sharp-tongued mother-in-law, and the kitchen turns out to be no easier ground than the fields. The cast features Valery Ryzhakov, Nikolai Timofeyev and Nina Sazonova, with Nikolai Ilyinsky directing. An unhurried, warm-hearted drama for anyone after honest Soviet cinema about work, youth and the first grown-up frictions — no big speeches, just everyday truth.
