Synopsis
FC Rodina (2023) is a Russian crime comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Midway through the season, the provincial football club Rodina loses its funding: the city mayor who owns the team decides to sell it off. The championship slips away, and with it the players' whole way of life.
Desperate to save the club, the guys wander somewhere footballers really shouldn't — they strike a deal with a local crime boss and agree to run contraband across the border into China. The plan falls apart, of course. The team ends up in debt to that same boss, dodging the Chinese mafia, while the captain somehow finds himself the new owner of Rodina. The pitch, the locker room and a tangle of criminal scores all knot together.
Directed by Ivan Plechev, the series features Roman Evdokimov, Valeria Repina, Maxim Belborodov and Igor Khripunov. Rated 18+, it's not a feel-good sports drama about lifting a trophy but a black comedy about love of the game dragging men into a debt pit.
