Tadashi "Hachi" Inukai is sick of feeling like a nobody, drifting through classes and burning his free hours on games. Then he stumbles on a weird ceremony, tries it as a joke, and drags a yokai named Izzy out of the spirit realm and into the mortal one. Magically bound together, the two have to muddle through school, romance and the bodies that start turning up around them. Izzy, it turns out, carries a five-hundred-year-old grudge against humans that she hasn't let go of.

Directed by Takahiro Miki, the show lurches on purpose between tender romance, sudden violence and outright goofball comedy, never staying in one register for long. It carries a mature rating, so the love story runs far bolder than the usual high-school anime template. A fun watch for fans of urban fantasy and boy-meets-supernatural-girl stories.
